Man Arrested in Florida for Elder Abuse in an Alleged OC Ponzi Scheme

Edward Fitzgerald, a former Dana Point yacht broker, was arrested in Florida on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 to face up to 58 charges for fraud, grand theft and elder abuse related to an alleged ponzi scheme targeting investors in Orange County, California.  Orange County Sheriff’s deputies are expected to fly to Florida as early as next week to gain custody of Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald is alleged to have bought and sold yachts with other people’s money while running Dona Island Yacht Sales and Charter. Although some individuals were able to recover their money, others were not so lucky.  Fitzgerald is believed to have taken a total of $16 million from individuals he convinced to invest in his business.
