Former CA Judge Sentenced in Elder Abuse Case

Paul Semaan, a former Alameda County Superior Court Judge, was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to elder abuse and perjury. Semaan was originally charged with over a dozen felony counts but struck a plea bargain with prosecutors for no contest pleas on two charges.

Semaan was initially suspected of several crimes related to elder abuse but an investigation determined that Semaan had mishandled a $250,000 loan and stolen $5,648 from his 97-year-old neighbor Anne Nutting. Semaan has now paid back all of the money to Mrs. Nutting’s estate.

Semaan resigned as a judge in March and as a result of his conviction is banned from practicing law in California.
