The Grand Forks Herald recently wrote about a team of local agencies seeking to open an elder abuse center in the Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN metropolitan areas. The team seeks to build a single office with law enforcement officials, social service providers, health care providers, and senior service organizations under one roof, with the hope that focusing services will result in better treatment and more investigations of elder abuse.
The proposed center is modeled after a local children’s advocacy facility, where medical professionals, social workers, law enforcement and prosecutors all operate under one roof. Child abuse and elder abuse victims share similarities because signs of abuse often go unnoticed, and victims are hesitant to come forward. The agencies involved are looking for a location and are seeking funding with the hope of opening next fall.
