State authorities in Ohio are attempting to revoke the license of a nursing home in Zanesville. Hidden cameras placed in Autumn Health Care with patient permission, but without staff knowledge, captured footage of neglect and indifference by nursing home staff. Hours of video footage include staff placing a food tray on the disabled side of a stroke victim, effectively preventing him from eating and failing to spot a patient’s breathing apparatus from falling out.
An Autumn Health Care spokesperson claimed that the attempt to revoke their license came as a complete surprise. But the nursing home has a history of elder abuse and has been on the state’s “special-focus facilities” list for 53 months, longer than any other nursing home in Ohio. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services had previously placed the nursing home on an improvement plan, but did not meet standard’s for improvement.
